Bacon’s Rebellion…… September 19, 1676…… Nathaniel Bacon, leading a group of settlers, burns down Jamestown and overthrows the Virginia governor. They were rebelling against excessive taxes, loss of self rule, and the governor’s refusal to protect them against Indians. Bacon died shortly after the rebellion due to dysentery.
